Course Description:

Immense talent does not always guarantee immortality. This rings especially true when considering gifted composers who could not escape the shadows of their better-known contemporaries. For Salieri, there was Mozart. For Gesualdo, Monteverdi. Dr. Todd Samra examines these and other accomplished composers who remain in the backdrop, covering a vast timeline from the liturgical composers of the medieval period to the one-hit wonders of pop and rock heard today.
