Course Description:

According to a recent Gallup poll, fewer than one-third of Americans believe that current news stories are accurate. And while there are examples of "fake news" dating back to the nineteenth century, the popularity of the term increased dramatically during last year’s presidential election.

What is fake news? How do you spot it and how is it different from satire, opinion, slanted journalism, propaganda and factual news reporting? Award-winning broadcast journalist Doug McKnight will enlighten us on this troubling phenomenon and its effect on American journalism.
