Course Description:

OLLI’s popular documentary film series presents five new and inspiring films that endeavor to expand our understanding of history, culture, politics, arts and literature. Each class begins with an introduction to the film’s content and its director(s), followed by screening and rich discussion. Once again, we invite you to dive into the world of documentary filmmaking, and engage in a deeper understanding of our world, as rendered through the wide lens of cinema.

Films tentatively scheduled: "Dolores" (2017), "California Typewriter" (2016), 'The Cats of Mirikitani" (2006), "Heather Booth", "Changing the World" (2016), and "Soufra" (2017).

Facilitator:

*Karen Davis* is Senior Film Programmer for the Mill Valley Film Festival. She has taught courses in world cinema and cultural studies at CSUMB, UC Santa Cruz and Vassar College. *Anne Sanchez* has taught women’s studies at Hartnell College. She served as president of the Monterey County Film Commission and was a founding member of the Association of California Commissions for Women.
