Course Description:

Cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple have dominated the headlines with their promise of riches as well as their wild swings in price, with some investors gaining or losing millions over the course of a few days. But despite their notoriety, what do we really know about these cryptocurrencies? Technology expert Kevin Brookhouser provides clarity with a presentation of the basic concepts behind these currencies and the language spoken within the crypto market, including key terms such as “blockchain” and “mining.”

Facilitator:

Elijah Colby spent his investment banking career in San Francisco and London, executing IPOs, secondary offerings and M&A transactions worth more than $2 Billion. After running the technology banking practice for a global firm, Elijah helped build an emerging markets group which advised clients across the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia. Now he teaches, coaches and mentors young investors at York School in Monterey. He is also a founding principal at real estate private equity fund Waterline Partners.

Samuel Wisner is a junior at York School. He began investing in cryptocurrency and the stock market in 2014, and is currently studying finance and investing as an independent course while at York.
