Early Days of Television Broadcasting

Course Description:

Join broadcaster and educator Gary Shapiro as he examines rarely seen gems from the time when television was young, its broadcasts mostly live, and its content created by some of the most talented artists of the 20th century. As a powerful medium of news and entertainment, television united the country during this period. Each session will feature a lecture to place the programs in their historical context, followed by discussion. Suggested readings will also be provided.

Gary Shapiro has been an educator for 30 years and currently teaches Film Appreciation and Broadcast History at Monterey Peninsula College. A broadcaster for over four decades, he is the longtime host of From The Bookshelf, a radio program featuring interviews with authors and celebrities.
