Course Description:

Learning from haiku
sustained by haiku—
this path of dew.
~Mitsu Suzuki, "A White Tea Bowl"

Each class will begin with the study of haiku masters, both classical (Basho, Buson, Issa, Chiyo-ni and Shiki) and contemporary (Richard Wright, Amy Lowell, Edward Hirsch, Marilyn Chin and others). Then, through writing exercises that provide starting points, the class will explore how we can learn from the writing of haiku, be sustained by it, and set “on this path of dew.” Open to readers and writers of all levels of experience with haiku.
