Course Description:

Over the past few decades, the genre of grief memoir has expanded rapidly as writers seek to give voice to the often dark and painful experience of losing a loved one. Grief memoirists affirm the validity of the experience of loss and the feelings that accompany it. This four-part course studies contemporary memoirs about grief by American authors including Joan Didion, Elizabeth Alexander, and Sandra Cisneros, examining the similarities and differences in content and form across the different texts.
