Course Description:

It's fascinating to consider the many ways in which modern artists paint and photograph themselves. What are the truths and deceptions, virtues and flaws, vanities and humilities expressed in these self reflections? We'll look at Frida Kahlo, Andy Warhol, Fran Lebowitz, Faith Ringgold, David Hockney, Robert Mapplethorpe and Ai Weiwei, to name a few.

This class will reference a fall/winter exhibition at the San Jose Museum of Art: "This Is Not a Selfie: Photographic Self-Portraits from the Audrey and Sydney Irmas Collection."
