Course Description:

Maestro Stewart Robertson’s impact has been felt throughout the world, as a conductor, artistic director, lecturer and writer. In this four-part course, he examines a unique topic each week, lending a well-honed global perspective.

Nov. 19: Politics and Music – Musical ideology and style within the USSR.

Nov. 26: Let’s Make an Opera – From singers and orchestra, to costumes, lighting and finance, an inside look at one of music’s most complex manifestations.

Dec. 3: Impressionism in Music – While its impact on the visual arts is better known, musical impressionism was also a worldwide phenomenon.

Dec. 10: From Old Worlds to New – Renowned composers Dvorak and Smetana develop a national style whose rich tradition continues today.
