Course Description:

The advent of the nuclear age saw the creation of a powerful energy source. However, it also gave rise to a new world, fraught with incalculable risk and extreme danger. In this four-part offering, Professor Avner Cohen will examine the ongoing history of the nuclear age from the discovery of nuclear energy, to the development and use of devastating weaponry, to the critical issues of present day. Along the way, Dr. Cohen will illuminate how politics, military strategy and morality have impacted each decision within the nuclear arena.

Avner Cohen, PhD is Professor of Nonproliferation Studies within the Graduate School of International Policy and Management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) and Senior Fellow with the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at MIIS. Dr. Cohen is an internationally recognized author and a winner of prestigious MacArthur Foundation research and writing awards.
