Course Description:

Many of us hold passionate beliefs that we want to share with others, especially those who might have the power to change the status quo. In this course, participants will learn how to use the tools of advocacy journalism to frame an issue and advance an argument in a form that will attract the interest of publishing outlets and the support of readers from a variety of constituencies.

Three sessions will cover 1) an introduction to advocacy journalism, 2) how to develop an effective OpEd and Letter to the Editor, and 3) the Advocacy Essay. You will come away with the zeal and confidence to make an effective case for your ideas, with recommendations on where you can submit your work. Some writing experience is preferred, but not mandatory.
