Course Description:

Following the success of the autumn writing class in which we took our inspiration from Rainer Maria Rilke’s early work, we’ll turn our attention to his later poems that are considered his masterpieces — "Sonnets to Orpheus," a cycle of 55 poems based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and the philosophical and mystical "Duino Elegies." In each of the three sessions we’ll discuss Rilke’s life and what led to writing these works, read a selection of poems, and write inspired by work that illumines the complexity of the inner life like no other.
