Without Warning: Attack on Athenia

Course Description:

The passenger liner Athenia was the first British ship sunk by Germany when it was torpedoed by a submarine on Sept. 3, 1939. Author Thomas Sanger has a personal connection with the attack: his grandmother was on board when the ship was attacked. She survived and later wrote about her experience, which inspired Mr. Sanger’s historical novel, "Without Warning". Join him for a riveting presentation that delves into the events leading up to the start of the war, circumstances surrounding the German U-boat attack, and the rescue of survivors.
