Course Description:

Though not as renowned as Athens and Rome, Alexandria during the Classical Age was, in many ways, more significant. Its importance lay not in its military power or governmental system, but rather in its intellectual environment. With its wealth and trade, Alexandria gathered scholars from all over the Classical World and was an intellectual magnet for hundreds of years, making huge advances in mathematics, astronomy, optics, medicine, geography, philosophy and theology. What were its achievements? How did it happen and why did it come to an end? With our minds, let us visit this remarkable place and pursue our own understandings.
