Course Description:

Natural history, geology, anthropology, and photography came of age in the 19th century just as the American West began to be explored. Reports, collections, and images brought back from this new frontier captivated our imagination, influenced our movements and settlement, and defined a distinctly American sense of destiny. Dr. Roger Luckenbach examines the work of scientists and photographers who helped create the spirit of the West.
