Course Description:

Experienced researcher Michael Ipson examines the evolution of American society, drawing together critical threads of life in the U.S. while showing the interaction between key aspects within an ever-changing landscape.

A Growing Society (May 6): Using data on population and social groups, households, education and health, we’ll explore the impact of a growing society, improved incomes, and increased education.

An Evolving Nation (May 13): Examining economic cycles and growth, the influence of the financial sector on industry and society, and changes in employment, we’ll analyze how individual and family lives have evolved.

The Impact of Government (May 20): Reviewing government budgets, investment in infrastructure and environmental policy, we’ll discuss how government has responded to population growth and public expectations and how this has impacted daily lives.

A New American Life (May 27): After a look at American’s leisure activities, social media and clothing styles, we’ll turn to how game changers such as technology, medical advances and climate are impacting our lives.
