Course Description:

"First Tick of the Season"
Sorry, little friend
no meal here. Wait for the deer.
They use this trail, too.

Each class will begin with the study of haiku masters, both classical (Basho, Chiyo-ni, Buson, Issa, and Shiki) and contemporary (Richard Wright, Amy Lowell, Robert Hass, Edward Hirsch, Marilyn Chin, and others). Then, through writing exercises that provide starting points, the class will explore how writing haiku can move us to be present for the "first tick of the season" and, perhaps, even the second. Open to readers and writers of all levels of experience with haiku.
