Course Description:

One of the California Light and Space artists that emerged in the 1960s, James Turrell has been producing this ephemeral form of art in numerous series of works. His explorations with the “shaping of light” have led him to Roden Crater, where for over 40 years he has transformed the extinct volcano in the Northern Arizona desert into a “seeing eye observatory.” This presentation will take a look at his art from exhibition-size works to larger outdoor structures and finally, to Roden Crater.
