Course Description:

Join us for an exploration of the everyday life and times of Johann Sebastian Bach and guided tour of Book I of "The Well-Tempered Clavier" with pianist Melinda Coffey Armstead. Completed in 1722, the WTC I is a cornerstone of Western music. Hand written copies were reverently studied by and inspired Mozart, Hadyn and Beethoven; later printed copies by Chopin and Debussy. Today, as then, it is considered the crown jewel of Baroque music.

The companion text for this course is "The Little Bach Book" by David Gordon, a compilation of his "Favorite anecdotes, explanations, timelines, bits of pathos, vintage illustrations and gritty descriptions of everyday life in Bach's time." www.luckyvalleypress.com
