Course Description:

Of the year 1968, author Mark Kurlansky wrote, "There has never been a year like 1968... in Poland, France, the United States, and Mexico there occurred a combustion of rebellious spirits. What was unique about 1968 was that people were rebelling over disparate issues. It was not planned and it was not organized." In the United States, there were assassinations, riots and the peak of the Vietnam War. But there were also new trends in music, social norms and cultural identity. Steve Henrikson looks at the social, political and cultural changes that occurred during a tumultuous year whose legacy remains with us to this day.
