Course Description:

Classical pianist Melinda Coffey Armstead returns to explore the influence Chopin had on his contemporaries: the German Romantic composers Liszt, Schumann and Mendelssohn; the French Impressionists Dubussy and Ravel; and, the Russians Balakirev, Leschetizky, and Rachmaninoff. She'll also examine the legacy of Chopin as a pianist and teacher through the written records left by his students. Each of the four lectures will be supported by images and live performances.

Facilitator:

Melinda Coffey Armstead is a professional classical pianist and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician around the globe. She received her Master of Music from the University of British Columbia, won first place and the National Competitive Music Festival in Toronto, and has recorded 10 solo and collaborative CDs.
