Course Description:

“Architecture is my delight, and putting up and pulling down one of my favorite amusements."
-Thomas Jefferson

Join us as we journey virtually to Thomas Jefferson’s two homes: Monticello and Poplar Forest. Jefferson used his knowledge and experience to realize world-class design in these homes as well as the Virginia Statehouse in Richmond and the Grounds of the University of Virginia. We will also look at where Jefferson lived as a child and how his time in Europe and his study of classical architecture influenced him. This four-part course will combine elements of history, building and landscape design, geography, invention, and family life.
