Course Description:

Poets have been writing about works of visual art since Classical times. In this two-part course, we will look at poems written about art including the two-dimensional form of painting, and the three-dimensional forms of sculpture, monuments and land art. We will also discuss the correspondences and connections that emerge between these two art forms by studying poems by diverse poets including Joseph Brodsky, Robert Hass, Vicki Hearn, and Jane Hirshfield, while looking at reproductions of the artworks that inspired them.
