Course Description:

Poets have been writing about works of visual art since Classical times. In a seminar setting, we will explore poetry’s connections to drawings, paintings, sculpture, and monuments while viewing images of the artworks that inspired the poems. In this sense, the history of art is the history of poetry. The visual and the written constitute parallel aesthetic journeys along roads of art appreciation.

We will study poems by a diverse range of poets, including Jorie Graham, Seamus Heaney, Christina Rossetti, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and others. Copies of the poems will be provided to students. Suggested reading includes "Art and Artists", "Poems about Sculpture", and "Poems of Rome" (Everyman's Library Pocket Poets Series).

Tuition: $25.00

Additional Fees: $0.00
