Course Description:

"Renaissance" art in the West is characterized by the admiration of ancient Greek and Roman models, which were adapted into a social framework of Christian devotion in order to inspire virtue and success. Join us for a four-part survey of paintings created within this period that will include the works of Giotto, Jan Van Eyck, Michelangelo, and Albrecht Dürer. We will conclude with an examination of select paintings created during the same period in India, China and Japan, in order to appreciate distinctive themes and styles within a shared celebration of human creativity.
