Course Description:

This six-session offering tackles a formidable writer at the peak of his artistry. The story begins with a murder that takes us into the lives of Muslim Californians with Indian heritage who are globally linked by love, loss and family. Through flashbacks that engage various geographies, religious taboos and time periods, Rushdie explores fundamentalism in Kashmir, Afghanistan, Nazi Germany, and the United States. "How has the world become so hateful?" the novel asks. And, "How is there always love?" it answers.
