Course Description:

Integral to the Monterey experience is the rhythmic rise and fall of the sea along the shoreline. In this two-part series, Geologist Ed Clifton, who has explored first-hand the effect of ocean waters on coastal sediment, takes us on a journey through the wonderful world of waves and tides. Where do waves originate? How do they both create and destroy our local beaches? What causes the unique tides of this area and why are they different from those elsewhere in the world? And, how can our local tides be predicted years in advance?
