Course Description:

Caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive substance in the world. In Western society, at least 80 percent of the adult population consumes caffeine in amounts large enough to have an effect on the brain. Coffee and tea's spread through the world is linked to revolutions, as well as social and scientific advances. While a tablespoon of it will kill you, most of us feel like death without it. Dr. Roger Luckenbach explores our love affair with caffeine and the science behind its universal allure. Join us for coffee, sweet treats and a lecture that is sure to stimulate and delight.

This course will be presented live at CSUMB Ryan Ranch (8 Upper Ragsdale Road, Monterey) and will NOT be recorded or available for viewing later. Participants will receive all information needed (including driving and parking instructions) in their welcome email approximately a week before the course begins. Seats are limited.

Facilitator:

Roger Luckenbach, Ph.D., is Professor of Biology, Emeritus and former Director of the Biotechnology and Honors Science programs at Fresno City College. He's revered for his engaging talks in which he skillfully relates complex scientific concepts to the masses.
