Course Description:

It seems like most societies have their myths and legends. But myths are more than mere stories. They have served a profound purpose in ancient and modern cultures. Myths are sacred tales that explain the world and man's experience. They inform people about their society's worldview, its values, its creation and its gods, answering questions about what it means to be human. Myths are stories that were usually communicated orally over the centuries, with no particular order or organization. For the most part, they were not all written down into one authoritative book such as the Bible or the Koran. Join us as we examine the myths of various cultures, analyzing what they were saying to their societies, and comparing and contrasting the values they imparted—many that still resonate today.
