[Past Event] Deep Sea Gardens and Nurseries | Ryan Ranch

Course Description:

While most of us typically see only the sea surface off the coast, deep waters with rugged seamounts and rocky ridges are common within miles of shore, and are home to a diversity of species that thrive in cold, dark waters. Join us as we take a deep dive off the coast, viewing footage collected by MBARI’s remotely operated vehicles in deep-sea coral gardens and octopus nurseries. We’ll review the biology and ecology of these ecosystems and their links to surface waters as well as heat from the Earth’s core.
