Course Description:

We head Down Under for our next sampling of the best crime fiction from around the globe. We'll read and discuss two recent novels out of Australia: "The Dry" is Jane Harper's CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning best seller, set in a small farming community in the bush, and introducing police investigator Aaron Falk. In "Scrublands" by Chris Hammer, journalist Martin Scarsden arrives in the drought-ridden town of Riversend on the anniversary of a tragedy and soon begins to suspect that the accepted explanation for the crime may be wrong. As we read and dissect these compelling mystery narratives, we will search for what makes each uniquely Australian and how they fit into the expansive canvas of crime fiction.
