Through the Lens: Photographer Brian Taylor | Ryan Ranch

Course Description:

Join us for a live (and lively!) gathering with Brian Taylor, renowned and influential contemporary photographer, professor and gallery director. Brian will lead us on a fascinating journey through his artistic life over the past 50 years, with special behind-the-scenes emphasis on the artworks that will be on display during his solo exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art this June and July. Brian’s innovative artworks combine photography with other media such as painting, collage and handmade books, including rare historic 19thcentury printing techniques. We’ll enjoy a thought-provoking conversation regarding what distinguishes a “manipulated” photograph from the tradition of “straight” imagery. From Ansel Adams to Anselm Kiefer, this will be a fascinating look at contemporary issues in photography through the lens of this gifted artist.
