Proposing a Course

OLLI@CSUMB is seeking instructors for the Summer (May 24 - June 25, 2021) and Fall (Aug. 30 - Dec. 11, 2021) terms. If you would like to share your time and expertise with the OLLI community, please download the OLLI Course Proposal Form for submission by March 31, 2021.

Helpful Hints for Shaping an OLLI Course

OLLI brings together experienced and engaging professionals with a vibrant group of learners for offerings most often shaped as follows:

  • A single lecture (1 1/2 to 2 hours)
  • A course (1 1/2 or 2-hour sessions meeting once a week for a 3 or 4-week period)
  • A lecture or course combined with a local field trip (on hold until further notice — virtual field trips are welcome)

Courses have no homework or tests, and the most successful courses are those which are interactive, unique and offer a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the subject matter.  Course selection is based upon the following criteria:

  • The offering is academic in nature
  • The course is not already well-served in the community
  • The course explores a topic that is of interest to OLLI membership
  • The offering complements and/or ties into current CSU Monterey Bay university curriculum and/or research projects
  • The course highlights feature aspects of our community and/or serves one of the five curriculum categories established by the OLLI@CSUMB membership:

1.  History / Politics

2.  The Arts (Fine Art, Music, Photography)

3.  Literature / Writing

4.  Mindful Individuals (Wellness, Philosophy, Psychology)

5.  Science (Marine Science, Environmental Science)

Preference is strongly given to those who have had significant teaching experience. Course proposals need not address all of these standards for selection, however, those that do stand a better chance of receiving serious consideration by the committee.
