Course Description:

The Age of Jackson was America's initial era of modernization and dramatic technological innovation. The United States was moving from a traditional, pre-industrial society to a modern state. The new spectacle of mass political parties, accompanied by massive immigration, contributed to the national unease and alarm. In a similar time of disorder, Americans chose Donald Trump as president in 2024. In what ways are Jackson and Trump similar; in what ways are they different? And, what do these similarities and differences tell us about ourselves and our national character?
