Anthropologist Among the Lowriders | Ryan Ranch

Course Description:

Join anthropologist, photographer and adventurer Rubén G. Mendoza on this colorful visual exploration of the art, culture and technology of the Mexican American or Chicanx Lowrider, and Lowriding, spanning California and the American Southwest. Since launching his studies of the Lowrider in 1976, Mendoza has produced a sizable visual corpus of images and collections documenting those aspects of the Mexican American tradition that gave rise to the Lowrider, Lowriding, and a vast array of arts, technologies and material cultures identified with what has since evolved into a worldwide pop cultural phenomenon.

Facilitator:

Rubén G. Mendoza, Ph.D., is a retired founding faculty member of CSUMB. He has directed major archaeological investigations at multiple California missions, the Colorado Front Range, and in Mexico. His long-term studies of the Mexican diaspora and Chicanx art and culture have been a mainstay of his photographic studies of California, the Southwest and Mexico.
