Course Description:

Artificial intelligence is everywhere: from Google's search engine, to OpenAI's collaboration with California State University, to Anthropic's clash with the Pentagon, to the environmental impact of data centers. Optimists promise spectacular advances in science and medicine. Pessimists warn of apocalypse. This two-part course explores the ethical implications of emerging AI technologies in a variety of contexts, including education, the arts, cybersecurity, national defense, transportation, and healthcare. We'll start with a basic introduction to ethics and then explore how scholars have theorized ways to understand the current moment and imminent future.
