Course Description:

Megaliths are huge, often undressed, stones used in various configurations representing the first form of human monumental architecture. From stone alignments to circles, they often served as temples or tombs. The structures are as different as the Neolithic peoples who made them. Although best known from Britain, they span the globe, appearing everywhere from Turkey and Malta to France and Peru. In this two-part offering, we’ll combine a global survey of megalith sites with an examination of the cultures that made them as well as their possible functions within these societies.
