Course Description:

Our Classic American Musical series has explored Broadway stage musical adaptations brought to the screen. Irving Berlin both wrote music for Broadway stage productions and for movie musicals. This spring, we will focus on the latter. We will watch "Alexander's Ragtime Band" (1938), "Holiday Inn" (1942) and "Blue Skies" (1946), films that showcase his range and lasting place in the Great American Songbook. We'll bring a bit of the theater experience to the classroom with freshly popped popcorn.
