Course Description:The stories of cults are deeply embedded in our culture, from "don’t drink the Kool-Aid" to memories of Waco. Despite widespread knowledge of cults, many misconceptions remain. Why did Jim Jones, with his call for "revolutionary suicide," gain such control over his followers? Why do we often refer to cult members as "brainwashed" or "sheep"? What makes cults so enduring and persistent in recruiting new members? In this series, we’ll explore the psychology of cults and delve deeply into case studies such as Jonestown, Waco, and the modern cult NXIVM. Join us as we seek to understand the power of these groups and how they continue to influence others. |
