Evolution - A Human Perspective | In Person (Ryan Ranch)
Course Description:The groundbreaking work of naturalist Charles Darwin launched a new era of science when he proposed his concept of "natural selection" in "On the Origin of Species." "The Descent of Man" furthered his influence as he postulated that humans share a common ancestor with other primates. Modern science has bolstered these theories with paleontological techniques, genetic mechanisms, and evidence-based analysis. Dr. Sidney Golub examines Darwin's concepts and how they have evolved over the decades. He'll also look at the influence of evolution theory on a broad array of societal issues, including conflicts and compatibilities with certain religious beliefs. Discussion of the all-important question of the future of human evolution will conclude the course. |
