Course Description:

Women in Russian culture are both revered for their strength and resilience and celebrated for their beauty and contributions to society. Within the Russian cultural tradition, women can hardly be called the weaker sex. Russian women possess not only physical strength but also moral, psychological strength, the power of love in its truly Russian interpretation of love—compassion, faith, self-sacrifice, patience, and sympathy. This course addresses different aspects of women's status and their perception throughout Russian history and features a whole gallery of notable women that left a mark within the culture, including, but not limited to, artists, poets, protagonists in literature, and royalty.
