Course Description:

Between 1926 and 1955, radio was America’ s preeminent medium of entertainment, a golden cornucopia of comedy, variety, drama, and news programming. Popular culture historian Gary Shapiro takes us on an audio-video tour of the Golden Age of Radio. "The Jack Benny Program," "The Shadow," "Fibber McGee and Molly," "Amos 'n' Andy," "The War of the Worlds," "Gunsmoke," fireside chats, and so much more.

Gary Shapiro has been an educator for over 30 years and teaches Film Appreciation at Monterey Peninsula College. A broadcaster for over four decades, he is the longtime host of "From the Bookshelf," a radio program featuring interviews with authors and celebrities.
