By popular demand, we’ve added a Friday Oct. 16 session from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Same great offering, now with a new time to join us.

It's the perennial question: Why does it take so long to count ballots in California? The answer: A mix of logistical and legal reasons, from the sheer size of the electorate to the state's rules for mail-in ballots, signature verification, and voter protections that give people time to fix certain ballot issues. Officials with the Monterey County Elections Department will explain the process as we observe the ballot counting underway for the midterm election.
