International Crime Fiction: Canada | Livestream Zoom
Course Description:We celebrate our neighbors to the north as our global tour of crime fiction takes us to Canada. Giles Blunt's "Forty Words for Sorrow," winner of The Macallan Silver Dagger for Fiction, will take us to the quiet Canadian town of Algonquin Bay, where Det. John Cardinal investigates the death of a teenage runaway whose frozen body is found in an abandoned mineshaft. L.R. Wright's "The Suspect" is a beloved classic among Canadian mystery aficionados—and the basis for the Fox/Hulu series "Murder in a Small Town." We will read and dissect these compelling mystery narratives in lively online discussions, exploring ways in which each novel reflects its national and cultural origins. In what ways might they differ from the crime canon of their British cousins or American neighbors? |
