Course Description:

Small of stature, James Madison was an intellectual giant and a formidable politician. He is most famous for his contributions to the U.S. Constitution and the Federalist essays. He was also a member of the Virginia legislature, an advisor to George Washington, a secretary of state, and then president. Like Washington and Jefferson, he was a slave owner who sold slaves to pay for debts.

In this four-part series, we'll delve deep into the life and career of this legendary figure, including the nature of his political and constitutional contributions, his co-creation of the political party system, his support and then criticism of Washington and Hamilton, the role played by his wife Dolly in his career, his accomplishments as president, and much more.
