Course Description:In 2024, the global cruise industry welcomed a record 34.6 million passengers and even bigger numbers are on the horizon. While providing economic benefits, the growth of the industry raises significant concerns about overtourism, environmental strain, the displacement of local populations, and the creation of a hyper-reality curated paradise rather than genuine cultural immersion. Dr. Roger Luckenbach, a featured speaker on numerous cruises over the decades, looks at the past, present and future of this burgeoning industry. |
