Media Literacy in the Age of Disinformation | In Person (MPC LF103)

Course Description:

Media literacy—applying critical thinking to distinguish fact from propaganda—is essential in today's media environment. Now seen by political operatives as a threat to their version of truth, careful analysis of media content is more important than ever to preserving democracy. Susan Meister, recognizing the challenges facing journalists, formed the Media Literacy Coalition to show how false information can mislead people and why analytical skills are key to exposing it. She will discuss the importance of media literacy in today's information landscape, while Dr. Daisy Martin, an expert on recognizing disinformation, will explain how to avoid unintentionally aiding those who use media to deceive.
