Memory into Memoir | In Person (Ryan Ranch)
Course Description:Each of us has lived a lot of life with lots to remember. W. B. Yeats said, "I carry from my mother’s womb, a fanatic heart." Want to unpack some of what you carry and see it in the light of now? The best way to do so is to write. You may rediscover experiences you thought you'd forgotten. We'll study the art of memoir and discuss various types: childhood, family, professional, thematic, and epistolary. We'll look at the small and pivotal moments, the places we wish we could return to but only can with a pen in hand. Everyone will be invited to refine and develop one piece to read aloud during our final session. We ask that you enroll only if you can attend all four sessions. |

Poet, nonfiction writer, artist, and educator Patrice Vecchione, a pre-dawn waker, starts each day with an open journal. Being left-handed, she frequently goes through her life ink-smudged, which mimics just how her heart feels these days, bruised by the goings-on in the world near and far.
