Monterey's Historic Buildings | In Person (Ryan Ranch) (Closed)
Course Description:Monterey is renowned for its historic buildings, including many tied to its role as the capital of California under Spanish, Mexican, and early American rule. Researcher and curator Scott Gale leads this image-driven exploration of local history beginning with "Los Perdidos y Los Salvados," a survey of historic buildings lost and saved, along with information about many of the people associated with these structures. The second session will be devoted entirely to the Custom House, California's first historical landmark, which celebrates its 200th anniversary next year. We'll examine historic drawings and photographs and compare fine art paintings against contemporaneous photographs. |
