Course Description:

We may be the only humans walking the planet today, but it was only about 30,000 years ago that we shared the earth with our nearest relatives, the Neanderthals. They too were human, and we interbred. They didn't completely go away; they just became a part of us. We will trace our roots from the last common ancestor with the apes and guide you through the divergence of the Neanderthal line to our rejoining so many thousands of years later. How did our thinking and language develop and how did it differ? What was their daily life like? What tools did they use? What were their thoughts and hopes? Together, we'll examine the latest scientific evidence to probe these profound questions.
